Ph.D. Project Title: Design principles of protein evolution and metagenomics.
Gon has a Masters in Bioinformatics where he studied DNA segmentation methods and developed a segmentation method based on word frequencies.
In his PhD research he focuses on developing a mathematical model of protein evolution by means of protein domain dynamics and assemble a comprehensive database from diverse taxa.
The database provides a platform to implement and evaluate the model. The model is tested on metagenome data-sets derived from soil samples. Additional related research topics which are studied by Gon are comparative analysis of disordered regions in proteins, protein-protein interaction networks between above-ground and subterranean animals and host-virus interactions.
